Dulcie McCallum, R.N., LL.B., MFA (2022)


Dulcie McCallum was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and Inclusion Canada’s President’s Award for her contribution as a special advisor on Canada’s delegation to the United Nations to negotiate the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Best known for her advocacy as a human rights lawyer for people labelled intellectually disabled, Dulcie is also the first woman to be appointed the Ombudsperson for the Province of BC and Information and Privacy Commissioner for the Province of Nova Scotia. Named a Distinguished Alumni by the University of Victoria and awarded the YWCA Woman of Distinction for Community Service. After graduating in 2022 with a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Nonfiction from the University of King’s College, Dulcie published her master's project as a book, The Audacity of Inclusion. Born in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Dulcie now calls Nova Scotia home.
