Tanya Whitney

Educator and Inclusive Education Advocate

Tanya Whitney has served as a principal and leader in schools and school districts in New Brunswick. Throughout her career, her professional focus has been on equity issues and inclusive schools, which has set her apart as a leader in these areas. Currently principal of a school in the Anglophone West School District in New Brunswick, she has served in various system leadership roles, including Director of Schools, Learning Specialist for Professional Learning and School Reviews, and Leadership Lead for a school district.


She served as the Ministry of Education's project executive for inclusion and coordinated the implementation of the goals identified in the Porter-Aucoin report, Strengthening Inclusion, Strengthening Schools (2012).


Tanya began her career working in First Nations communities and continues to support reconciliation as an active ally. She is a past president of Inclusion New Brunswick and an active volunteer for Sexual Violence NB. She has led critical work in her district, developing policy and modules on sexual violence prevention and response.
