Our Vision
People with an intellectual disability, their families, and allies are actively engaged in efforts to advance inclusion in their own lives and communities.
Acknowledging that people with an intellectual disability and their families have diverse identities, we actively build relationships and allyships with other equity-seeking groups and take an intersectional approach in all aspects of our work.
Our Objectives
Develop a grassroots engagement and movement development series and implement in partnership with provincial/territorial member organizations.
Actively engage in grassroots leadership development in five provinces/territories.
Strengthen internal knowledge and awareness on intersectional anti-oppression practices and approaches.
Develop and implement an intersectional lens to be applied to all work of the organization.
Why It Matters
Social change requires a movement. We know that people with an intellectual disability, their families, and allies are working to build inclusive lives and inclusive communities across the country. We also know this work can feel isolating and lonely.
The movement for inclusion is strongest when people with an intellectual disability and their families feel connected and see themselves as important pieces within the larger movement. Attracting and supporting the development of new leaders and allies is also essential for local-to-global impact in advancing our vision for inclusion.

What We're Doing
Inclusion Canada is supporting families to create a vision for an inclusive life and make that vision a reality by delivering our Family Leadership Development Series in communities across the country. In partnership with our provincial and territorial member organizations, we help families deepen their knowledge about advocacy and the rights of people with disabilities and support them to speak up for positive changes in their communities.
Inclusion Canada understands that people with disabilities are not a homogenous group. People have many identities and may be excluded based on their disability, racialization, Indigeneity, sexual orientation, gender identity, class, or other forms of discrimination. Inclusion Canada is actively building relationships and collaborations with equity deserving groups to ensure the voices of underrepresented people with an intellectual disability and their families are included in all our efforts to build a Canada where everyone belongs.
