World Conference in Salamanca
Inclusion International is holding a Global Conference on Inclusive Education in Salamanca Spain in October 2009. The conference will be focused on reviewing the progress made toward achieving inclusive education for children with intellectual disabilities since the UNESCO Salamanca Conference in 1994 produced the Salamanca Statement – a call for inclusion sent out to the education systems around the world. A Global Report will be issued and speakers will highlight the progress made and the challenges that remain. A number of Canadians are on the program. They include Bruce Uditsky and Anne Hughson from Alberta, Margaret Kress White from Saskatchewan and the University of Manitoba, Bendina Miller from British Columbia, the current president of CACL as well as Arlene Zuckernick from Victoria, BC, Angela AuCoin and Raymond Vienneau from the University of Moncton, Doug Willms from UNB in Fredericton, and Dan Goodyear from the Ministry of Education in Newfoundland and Labrador. Gordon Porter from New Brunswick is co-chair of the Program Committee and Inclusion International president Diane Richler, Connie Lauren-Bowie, and Ines Escallon are key organizers of the event. 2009 Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies Inclusive Education Summer Institute
The Alberta Association for Community Living and the University of Calgary are proud to offer, as part of the Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies Summer Institute, three half courses on Inclusive Education. These courses will be of interest to teachers, administrators, parents, and others who are committed to educating students with developmental disabilities in the regular classroom and are offered for CREDIT and AUDIT.
The Summer Institute will run from July 6 -24, 2009 and will offer the following three courses: Ethics of Caring and Inclusion: Implications for Educational Reform, Adapting Curriculum in Schools from K-12 and Addressing Challenging Behaviours in the Classroom.

NB Event: Inclusive Education Awards in Fredericton February 19 2009
The New Brunswick Association for Community Living is holding an awards event at Old Government House in Fredericton at 4:00 pm on Thursday, February 19. President Marlene Munn has announced that several individuals and schools will be recognized for their efforts to make inclusive education a reality in provincial schools. Education Minister Lamrock has been invited to attend. Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick Herménégilde Chiasson will host the event.

Summer Leadership Academy in Inclusive Education
Leading School and Classroom Strategies for Quality Inclusion Enjoy 4 days of learning, sharing and discussion while attending a stimulating Institute on Inclusive Education. The Institute will be of interest to those actively involved in leadership in inclusive education or those looking for an opportunity to learn more about providing leadership in an inclusive educational setting. This will include:
- Education Leaders - School Principals and District Personnel
- Support and Resource Teachers
- Others in leadership positions
The development of inclusive educational practices has been a major feature and a major challenge for Canadian schools in recent years. At two complete four-day sessions in Toronto, Ontario and Charlottetown, PEI, resource people will offer their ideas on specific successful practices and participants will discuss, question and share their own experiences and strategies. A combination of activities will be included with emphasis on participation and building knowledge through sharing and analysis.
